From Administration to Data Work
Courses taken: Stations 01 & 02 · Total time: 6 months
The Challenge
A government administrative officer in her mid-thirties wanted to move toward data work but had no programming experience. She had tried online tutorials but could not sustain progress without structure or someone to ask when she got stuck.
The Approach
She enrolled in Station 01 and took eight weeks to complete it, using the recordings on weekends and attending live sessions on weekday evenings. After a short break, she moved into Station 02 and worked on a project using real government spending data she had access to through her role.
The Outcome
By the end of Station 02, she had a portfolio project she could explain clearly and a foundation in Python and data analysis. She was subsequently asked to take on data-related responsibilities in her department — a shift she had been hoping to make for two years.
A Freelance Developer Adds AI Skills

The Challenge
A freelance web developer with Python knowledge wanted to add machine learning to what he could offer clients, but did not know how to structure his learning or how to get models working reliably inside real applications.
The Approach
He skipped Station 01 and started with Station 02, which was the right call given his existing background. He moved into Station 03 after completing his portfolio project and worked on his capstone alongside a small client project, applying what he was learning directly.
The Outcome
He completed Station 03 with a working prediction API he deployed to a cloud service — something he could demonstrate to clients. He now takes on data and AI-adjacent project work alongside his web development, which has expanded his income and the type of projects he works on.
A Student Builds a Final Year-Adjacent Project

The Challenge
A second-year computer science student wanted to develop AI skills beyond what his university programme covered. He found university coursework moved too slowly on applied topics and wanted practical experience he could build on for his final year project.
The Approach
He went through all three stations sequentially over nine months, fitting the work around his semester schedule. He used the community space actively and participated in every live session he could attend. His capstone was a simple recommendation system built around a dataset of Malaysian products.
The Outcome
He entered his final year with a deployed project in his portfolio, practical experience with the full model-to-application pipeline, and a clearer sense of what he wanted to do after graduating. He told us the Ilmu Nusantara capstone helped him shape his final year project proposal.
