Our Story
A School Built on Honest Learning
Ilmu Nusantara was founded in Cyberjaya with one clear purpose: help people in Malaysia learn to build with AI — without hype, without false shortcuts, and at a pace that respects real life.
Back to HomeWho We Are
How Ilmu Nusantara Came to Be
Ilmu Nusantara grew out of a simple observation: there were plenty of AI courses available online, but most of them were either too fast, too shallow, or too disconnected from the realities of learners in Malaysia. People were spending money and time on programmes that left them more confused than when they started.
We started small — a handful of learners, a structured eight-week programme, and a commitment to answering every question personally. That approach worked. Learners completed the course, built real projects, and came back with friends and colleagues to continue. Over time, we grew into three full courses that take a learner from no experience to a working AI application.
We are based in Cyberjaya, Malaysia's technology hub, which shapes the way we think about learning and work. Our courses are designed for people who hold down jobs, manage family responsibilities, and cannot afford to gamble months of effort on a programme that overpromises.
Our Mission
To give learners in Malaysia a clear and honest path into AI development — structured well, supported properly, and priced fairly.
Our Vision
A community of builders across Malaysia and the region who developed their AI skills through careful study and came away with real capability — not just a certificate.
Our Values
- Honesty about what learning takes
- Patience with every learner's pace
- Substance over marketing claims
- Feedback that actually helps
- Respect for learners' time and money
The People
The Team Behind the Courses
A small group of practitioners and educators who care about how things are taught, not just what is taught.
Ahmad Hafizi
Lead Instructor
Builds and teaches the Python and machine learning modules. Has spent several years working on data projects in the Malaysian fintech sector and prefers plain explanations over technical jargon.
Nurul Rahim
Curriculum Designer
Responsible for how the courses are structured and sequenced. Has a background in adult learning and spent time working in education technology before joining Ilmu Nusantara.
Syafiq Kamaruddin
Application Development Mentor
Leads the advanced course and the capstone project reviews. His background is in software engineering, and he particularly enjoys working with learners at the point where their models first run in a real application.
Standards We Hold
How We Approach Quality
These are not aspirational statements. They describe the specific things we do to make sure the courses are worth your time.
Reviewed Curriculum
Every course module is reviewed before release and updated when tools or practices change. We do not leave outdated content in place and hope learners do not notice.
Personal Feedback
Project submissions receive written feedback from a human reviewer. We limit cohort sizes so this does not become a token gesture.
Data Privacy
Learner data — enrolment details, project submissions, communication — is stored securely and is never passed to third parties for marketing. You can ask us at any time what we hold.
Accessible Materials
Lessons are recorded in clear audio and with readable slides. We check that materials work on a basic laptop with an average Malaysian internet connection.
Intake Review Process
After each course intake, we review participant feedback and adjust the materials, pacing, or support where problems were identified. Courses improve over time.
Practitioner-Led Teaching
Our instructors have worked with the tools they teach. They know where the common difficulties are because they have encountered them in real projects.
AI Development Education in Malaysia
Ilmu Nusantara occupies a specific place in Malaysian education. We are not a bootcamp and we are not a university programme. We are a structured online school that takes AI development seriously while remaining genuinely accessible to working adults, recent graduates, and career changers who want to develop practical skills with modern tools.
Our courses use Python as the primary language — the most widely used language in the AI and data fields — and progress from fundamental programming concepts through data preparation and modelling to full application deployment. Each stage is taught at a pace that allows for understanding rather than mere completion.
Learners who complete all three courses have built and documented real projects: a portfolio that reflects what they can actually do. This is more useful to a prospective employer or collaborator than any certification statement alone. The projects are the learner's own work, produced with the support of our instructors.
We are proud to be based in Cyberjaya, a community built around technology and learning. Our local roots mean we understand the context our learners come from — the mixture of ambition, practical constraint, and genuine curiosity that characterises so many people in Malaysia who are interested in building with AI.
